StereoImaging Corporation Camera FAQ
How can you get Stereo with only one lens?
While the front of the DentiMag3D™ camera has only one opening, look
carefully. You'll see two smaller lenses within the opening. The unit actually has
two sensors, just like two human eyes. The design has a shared
common front lens and window. There is a mirror between the two channels
which brings the center light out in line with the optics.
What sort of outputs does the camera have?
The microscope camera head connects to a base station box. On
this box, there are two VGA connectors for output to stereo capable
computer monitors. The output runs at 800x600 pixels in
a frame sequential mode. This means that a full left eye frame is
shown and then a full right eye frame is shown. A number of types
of stereo capable display are available, depending on the user's
preference. Each VGA output connector has an identical signal and
they can be used to drive two different displays at the same time. The
speed of the display is dependent upon the type of display being used, but
it is always sufficient to avoid flicker.
The base station also has USB-2 connections
and a VESA standard stereo sync connection (3-pin mini-DIN).
What is the working distance (focal length) and field of
view (FOV) of the DentiMag3D™?
The DentiMag3D™ has a working distance of about 450 mm (18 inches)
from the front of the camera. This gives much more working
room compared to standard microscopes which have 200-250 mm ( 8-10
inch) working distances. The field of view changes with the zoom
setting from about 10 mm (0.4 inch) to 36 mm (1.4 inches).
How do I adjust the focus and zoom?
There is a foot pedal control for motorized focus and zoom
control. The camera is initially positioned by hand and then the
motorized focus range is about 3.5 inches.
Does the system require a computer?
A: No, the system is stand-alone and does not need a PC for normal
operation. However, if you would like to capture 3D still images,
you may connect to a computer through the USB-2 connection.
Can I connect your camera to a VCR to record in stereo?
No. The output of our camera is in computer display
format, not in standard video format. You may capture still
images through the USB-2 connection. High resolution (800x600)
video may be captured with a frame grabber setup if desired.
